Introducing World ID 3.0: New credentials, more privacy and deep fake prevention

Oct 17, 2024 2 Minute Read

World ID is designed to be the anonymous human layer of the internet built for the age of AI.

Today, World is unveiling the most advanced version of World ID yet: World ID 3.0. Building on its proof of human protocol, World ID 3.0 introduces new features that push the boundaries of privacy, security and scalability.

World ID Credentials for network scaling

AI is progressing faster than even many experts expected. To help bring World ID access to the millions of people who haven’t yet had a chance to verify at an Orb, World ID 3.0 introduces World ID Credentials, a new way to enable the World Network to scale and add utility even faster

Starting today in the US, Malaysia and the UK and expanding in the coming weeks to many more countries around the world, World ID holders can now optionally store information from their physical NFC-enabled passports in World App on their device—with none of the data stored off their device or accessible to World Foundation, TFH or any third party—then use their World ID to prove things like age, nationality and unique passport ownership without revealing their real identity.

In addition, the World Foundation has decided to allow Verified Passport holders to claim WLD tokens (where available) even before they fully Orb-verify their World ID.

World ID Deep Face: Deep fakes solved

World ID 3.0 also introduces a powerful new way to combat online fraud: World ID Deep Face.

World ID Deep Face is a cutting-edge technology that combines Orb imaging, personal data custody and Face Auth to enable people to verify that they are communicating with real humans and combat the rising threat of deep fakes, whether in real-time video or chat interactions.

World ID Deep Face can be used from World App to World App or be installed on a computer, and it works with popular video conferencing and video chat apps. Deep Face also includes an SDK for more native integration by developers on the World Network, so people can get a more seamless experience with confidence that they can detect deep fakes.

World ID Deep Face Beta is launching in the coming weeks.

A custom SMPC setup for anonymity

World ID 3.0 features AMPC, the next generation SMPC setup from World that ensures privacy and security for sensitive data processing.

With the addition of third-party AMPC hosts (mostly universities), World ID further decentralizes its infrastructure, allowing data to be verified and processed without ever revealing personal information. This ensures World ID interactions are anonymous.

Secure, human-centered digital infrastructure

In addition to these new features, World Network contributors have been working with governments to leverage World ID to strengthen and secure their digital infrastructure in the age of AI.

World ID 3.0 is aligned with these initiatives. It helps governments not only build human-centered AI systems and secure digital credentials but also enable better citizen services and interoperability between government-issued identities and the open internet—all while maintaining user anonymity.

The World Foundation and TFH are currently engaging with the Taiwanese Parliament’s Emerging Technology Exchange Association and Malaysia’s MIMOS Berhad on these efforts.
